How to install a driver on Windows and others
The HP LaserJet 1000 printer was released about 20 years ago. But due to its high quality and reliability, it can still be found in many offices and homes. People change their computers, but they leave their usual and convenient printing device. But if you connect the device to a new computer, you won’t be able to start printing right away. It is required to install a distribution kit, and this issue is difficult. The hardware manufacturer has stopped releasing drivers for this model for newer operating systems, so the default installation doesn’t help. This article will show you how to fix the missing software issue and work around the limitations. First you need to download the HP LaserJet 1000 driver located at the top of the page. When saving, it is best to specify the download location – the desktop. This will make it easier for you.
Minimize all windows, if you have them open, to see the downloaded file. Click on it with the right mouse button to display a drop-down menu. In it, select “Properties”.
The properties window will open. Go to the “Compatibility” tab. In the “Compatibility Mode” section, select “Windows XP (Service Pack 3)” or “Windows Vista (Service Pack 2)” from the drop-down list. Also check the box next to the phrase “Run this program …”. Click “Apply”, then “OK”.
Now the driver should be started. Click “Next” and then “Finish”. The printer will not install, but the files will be unpacked and saved in the location we need. Now you need to go to the Control Panel, click on “Devices and Printers” in it and click on the “Add Printer” button at the top of the window.
We do what the installer asks:
- Click “Install a local printer”
- We don’t change the port and just go to the next step.
- We select the required printer model. Find HP in the manufacturer’s window, click and then look for the model in the second window. If you are lucky to find the LJ1000 click on it and on “Next”.
- If your model is not listed, click Have Disk.
- Specify the path to the folder into which the driver files were unpacked.
- We find the HPLJ1000.inf file there and click on it.
- Click “Next”.
- We press “For local access”.
- And on “Done”.
If your OS is 32-bit, then after such actions everything should work. If the bitness is 64, this method will not help. You will need to set up a virtual machine and print from it. You can find out how to do this work at this link.
